Harbour View FC scores financial literary sessions with VM Group

Kingston Jamaica – The VM Group, in its mission to transform the lives of everyday Jamaicans has expanded the VM Financial Education to Empower (VM F.E.T.E.) Programme to offer financial literacy sessions to football players of the Harbour View Football Club, as part of its sponsorship of the Jamaica Premier League.

The first session in the series was held on the Club’s home grounds in Harbour View on March 16, and led by VM Group’s Business Development Manager, Mendel Thompson.

During an engaging and hands-on session, Thompson encouraged the players to be deliberate in determining their financial goals, which will guide them in planning towards achieving it.

“You must be absolutely clear on what you want to achieve, then do whatever it takes when implementing your plan to achieve those goals. Some of you may think that saving towards your goals are impossible, but it just takes consistency and being disciplined,” he advised.

He further noted that it was important for players aiming to become financially fit to look towards different investment options to sustain them even in life after retiring from the sport.

Latoya Grindley, VM Group Marketing Manager for Credit and Real Estate, said the collaboration with the Jamaica Premier League, which is responsible for transforming the landscape of Jamaican football talent and communities, is an exciting chapter for the VM Group, and offered the perfect opportunity to have lasting impact on the financial well-being of players.

“We are contributing to the development of local football and harnessing undeniable talent in the sport. And while we have helped to get the players on the field to participate in this highly anticipated sporting activity, it’s also important to us to be a part of transforming their lives off the field.”

Grindley shared that the VM F.E.T.E programme series with the players will feature financial topics such as savings and investments, credit and debt management, pensions and real estate planning, which will no doubt be beneficial to the players throughout their life and career.

The first session was also attended by Harbour View FC Coach, Ludlow Bernard, who welcomed the partnership.

“This has been a good experience, having representatives from VM at our Club providing valuable financial education and financial solutions. The impact this will have on the players will be immense and should really provide an impetus for footballers to be financially astute,” he said.

In December, the VM Group was announced as an official sponsor of The Jamaica Premier League 2022-2023 season. Through that partnership, the organisation is also the official team sponsor of the Harbour View FC.
